Our hens

We rear our hens from day old chicks. The breeds we tend to stick to are Bovans Goldline, Lohmanns and Shaver 566. These sturdy, docile hens are good layers, ideal for the smaller free range egg producer. We keep around 3000 hens of various ages.

 

 

 

 

We are Sue and Paul Jolly, Free range egg producers and packers based in Bourne End, Cranfield, Bedfordshire. We are DEFRA approved, registered and inspected regularly. We conform to all the legal requirements set by DEFRA.

 

 

 

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is to provide high quality, locally produced food gained by ethical means; we treat our poultry with the highest regard and do not abuse nor take for granted their dependency on us to lead a happy, healthy life. We are open and honest and you are invited to visit us here at 'Freedom Poultry... the home of happy hens'.

 

Who are we?

 

We are the third generation of poultry farmers here at Horseshoe Farm and also work with our parents to incorporate the vegetable side of the farm with the eggs produced. Our Free Range eggs & vegetables are available in our Farm shop and in all the top quality local butchers, Cranfield farmers market and various other outlets. Also available hay straw coal firewood

Our hens are free from confinement and constraint, and free to lead as natural and carefree a life as possible.

 

Quality before Quantity

 

Our henhouse is light and airy with plenty of perches and nest-boxes, with food and water available at all times. We do not overstock our henhouse, to ensure that our hens have plenty of room.
